During the last July, the students taking the Design in Gastronomy Summer Course left behind the heat of Madrid and went on a journey to the land of good wine: La Rioja. Over five days (from the 25th to the 29th of July) they had the chance to enjoy the landscape, the food and the vineyards from the area.
They also visited some of the most spectacular wineries in La Rioja, whose main characteristic is the combination of the tradition and innovation. Among them it is worth noting the bodega López de Heredia, bodegas de Marqués de Riscal, bodegas Luis Cañas and bodegas Aroa.
Students enjoyed the cuisine at hotels and restaurants where design is key, and they met renowned figures such as Francis Paniego, a chef with two Michelin stars, who personally showed them the kitchens of the Echaurren gastronomic hotel, the two restaurants in the hotel and its rooms. The students also attended a brief showcooking during which Francis showed them some of his creations and told them about the concepts behind each dish and what he wants to convey to the audience.
But not everything was visits to restaurants and vineyards. During the trip students also spent time with business owners such as the proprietors of La Catedral de Navarra and the ice-cream firm Graté.
