Artful patterns: Pattern Design Exhibition of the Master in Textile and Surface Design

We bet you don’t know what La Casita de Wendy, Vista Alegre and Museo Thyssen have in common? A beautiful relationship with the Master in Textile and Surface Design! The collaborations of these companies with IED Madrid have led to very interesting projects undertaken by the students of this programme, which were shown at the Pattern Design Exhibition.

The event, which in previous editions had been named Company Day, was successfully held at the Palacio de Altamira on 5 July.

The last briefing in which the students participated was at the Thyssen Museum and consisted in designing a collection of patterns and products inspired by a painting in the permanent collection. The free choice of painting meant that each and every one of the projects was different and incomparable, which greatly enriched the exhibition.

The proposal of Anna Carolina Vargas Caldas was particularly attractive and she was selected to enjoy a period of work experience at the shop of the famous Madrid art gallery and may even see one of her designs produced.

In sketches, colours and projects, Anna Carolina discovered Surface Design and a new world appeared in her life. She believes that every pattern is able to tell a story. Today, she works as a freelance Pattern Designer and enjoys experimenting with different techniques and materials, bringing together manual and digital work and mixing Illustration, Graphic Design and Product Design.
