A story told through a lens. Martin Parr and Moritz Neumüller curators of the Photobook Phenomenon exhibition

Have you ever stopped to think that a story could be told with photos instead of words? The Photobook Phenomenon exhibition, co-produced by the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) and the Foto Colectania Foundation, shows that it is possible. A sample of over 500 publications that can be visited until 17 June at the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastian.

The exhibition contributes towards offering new perspectives on the relevance and impact of the photobook in visual culture, from its origins up to the present. It is undeniable that at the height of an age of digital saturation, we are experiencing a return to printed material. That is why the photography school of IED Madrid has a teaching team made up of leading artists, photographers and theorists in different areas of publishing, layout and production.

The photography students of IED Madrid had the opportunity to attend the opening of Photobook Phenomenon guided by two of the curators of the exhibition: Martin Parr - teacher of the Master in Professional Photography - and Moritz Neumüller - director of the European Master in Contemporary Photography-.

During the visit, the students of the Master of Professional Photography and the European Master of Contemporary Photography had a masterclass with Martin Parr and enjoyed a round table discussion with great photographers such as Martin Parr, Horacio Fernandez, Moritz Neumüller and Gabriela Cualladó.



Martin Parr

Artist, curator and president of Magnum Photos. Facing up to the constant flood of images that we suffer from the media, his photographs allow us to see the world from a unique perspective. His iconic photographic work is original, entertaining and world-renowned.

Moritz Neumüller

Curator and writer in the field of photography and new technologies.
He has worked with institutions such as the MoMa in New York, La Fabrica de Madrid and the PhotoIreland Festival. He is the director of the photography area at IED Madrid and a regular contributor to magazines such as European Photography, FOAM and Photoresearcher.
