Summer - 3 weeks

From the interior design of a restaurant to the label on a bottle of wine or a tin of preserves, as well as tableware, the presentation of a recipe blog or the uniform worn by waiting staff. Anything encompassed by the vast term of gastronomy is included in the wide-ranging approach of design.

    Summer Course in Design in Gastronomy

    The Design in Gastronomy Summer Course is taught in english and it is divided into two blocks: the first one lasts 2 weeks, from July 10th to July 21st. Last block, from July 24th to July 28th will include a trip to the spanish region La Rioja, famous for its wine.

    Aim: the course is devised so that anyone linked to the world of design and/or gastronomy can acquire the basic knowledge to understand the relationship between them and move more comfortably and professionally between the two.

    Objectives

    • Provide an approach to issues related to these two areas: gastronomy and design
    • Provide a theoretical and practical introduction to general knowledge about the relationship between food and design, always from the perspective of debate, dialogue and exposure to different views
    • Learning through lectures, examples and viewing of audio-visual and graphic material, identifying trends, identifying their main figures and getting to know the keys of good design. All this will help to create a complete final project involving all branches of design applied to gastronomy

    Director

    Álvaro Castro

    Journalist, author of books and guides, and consultant, specializing in food and lifestyle.

    After living in London, Rome and Buenos Aires, he settled in Madrid, where he works for publications such as Wallpaper, GQ, Vogue, El Mundo, Neo2 and TeleMadrid. Currently, he works mainly with Wallpaper, Rabat, Marie Claire, El País and Habitania.
    He is also a consultant for the City Council of Madrid, and he works as an adviser in fields linked to journalism and trends.
